Hi,

Thanks to Malhavoc for creating his website and especially the Netrunner plugin for Magic Workstation - it is (almost) perfect for playing Netrunner online.

I had a great time meeting other players there and playing games; in the beginning, we even had some successful tournaments.

I used httrack to create a full backup of Malhavocs website (I hope it is complete, I had to stop httrack after eight hours, but I guess the download was complete at that point and httrack was only updating internal links).

I put a part of this backup online, including the chat applet:
http://userpages.uni-koblenz.de/~ffko/Netrunner/RunnersNetArchive20100807_small/www.runners-net.com/index.html

I don't have enough webspace to host the full forum content; if somebody wants to host the 186 MB, please shout!
Also tell me if you want a specific forum post to get reactivated, then I can put it online.

I asked Malhavoc to write a description of how to add/update gamepacks for Magic Workstation. This description should include screenshots.
A new virtual expansion (Open War) was released some days ago with full artwork, maybe somebody is interested in playtesting it through Magic Workstation?

It would be good if we could find someone to host the complete forum backup (there is some interesting stuff in it); but continuing Malhavoc's forum makes not much sense as activity there has decreased and because we have an active forum right here.

Yes, I accepted to make it public on this site, so no problem for it to be included in the MWS tool.

I just want to repeat what I said on Runners-Net, that I'm sadden that Runner's Net may be ending. I once heard of one person who had wanted to purchase NetRunner from Wizards of the Cost and change the theme to The Matrix. I don't know if that would have helped make it more popular, though. NetRunner, is, unfortunately a really complicated and really long. Risk, by comparison, is long, and strategically challenging, but not really all that complicated, rules wise.

Towards that end, if anyone is interested, I long ago started making a computerized version of NetRunner in Java that would automatically take care of a lot of the gritty details of playing NetRunner cards and effects. I hadn't know about the MWS version back then and had hopped that my version would help make the game more playable and interesting to more people.

I haven't finished the program, but I got most of the groundwork laid and had started on programing in the effects of individual cards. Unfortunately, the spare time I had been devoting to it dried up, but if anyone was interested in working on it, I could send what I have to them. I'm also open to working on it again with someone, if it is felt that having a more automated computer version of NetRunner would improve its popularity. No offense, Malhavoc, I like and use your MWS plugin, but it is sort of a hack job. It works, but it is also a lot of effort to play the game on it and keep track of everything (vs. having a computer do it for you).

I agree with you that MWS tool is just a 'perversion', but if it can help player to come to play Netrunner, why not.

I myself tested it, but I was not really 100% happy for two reasons:
- I couldn't help thinking I was playing a NetMagicRunner game instead of Netruner.
- The game play was a bit awkward

I have dreamed of a real dedicated program made for Netrunner (with automatisms), even if nothing will replace the real 'physical' confrontation between two players (psychological effect, manipulation of cards and token, beauty of display area, faces of opponents, support of friends, ...).

But unfortunately, if I dare to think I'm an Netrunner expert, I'm surely not a programmer expert, and in that field I'm afraid I'm not able to help. I can only support and encourage you to continue developping this.

You may not be an expert, but you help, and the forums, in when effects are supposed to take place and how would be invaluable, since it would now be the computer doing most of the work, so the players would have little means (I suppose I could include a manual override) of correcting it if it made any mistakes...

Though I really would like another Java coder to help with the entering of all the data! And trust me, Java is NOT hard at all...

Hi Playful,

"I couldn't help thinking I was playing a NetMagicRunner game instead of Netruner."

Sounds like you installed the Netrunner plugin for Magic Workstation, but you didn't set the theme/style to Netrunner?
If so, here is how you can switch the theme:
http://www.uni-koblenz.de/~ffko/Netrunner/howto.htm#Theme

Another option is GCCG, which also has a Netrunner plugin. There you have real bits and you don't need to abuse your life points as bits.
Information on installing gccg:
http://games.michael-nock.de/netrunner/gccg%20installation%20instructions.txt
(alternatively, if someone is interested and has an ftp server or skype, I can zip my installation and upload it).

Thanks for your help.
I've tested MWS with the Netrunner layout, but it's a long story...
If I have enough time, i'll test the second option.

Thanks again
